Doctoral Program in Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro held the Virtual International Guest Lecturer Series on 20  April 2022. On this occasion we invited Prof. Dr. Noor Ismawati Jaafar to share her research experience in Business Information Systems.  Dr. Noor Ismawati binti Jaafar is a Professor at the Faculty of Business and Economics, Universiti Malaya Malaysia. She has an accounting background and IT working experience in audit firm and large corporate organizations before joining the university. Prof. Noor Ismawati currently serves as the Deputy Dean of Research and is a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). She now focuses on teaching core courses and doing research related to Information Systems..

Prof. Dr. Noor Ismawati Jaafar presented a topic entitled Current Issues in Business Information Systems. She first introduces the concept of  business information systems (BIS). Business information systems provide information that organizations use to manage themselves efficiently and effectively, typically using computer systems and technology. Primary components of business information systems include hardware, software, data, procedures (design, development, and documentation) and people. The main types of information system usage in businesses are Executive Support System (ESS), Management Information System (MIS), Decision Support System (DSS), Knowledge Management System (KMS), Transaction Processing System (TPS) and Office Automation System (OAS). Information systems can be grouped into three broad classifications—enterprise systems (ES), knowledge management/collaboration systems, and business intelligence (BI) systems. She then talked about Bibliometric of BIS Research, Research Trends on BIS, Research Opportunities on BIS and Challenges for IS Researchers.

This guest lecturer was attended by 98 participants consisting of doctoral students, some master and undergraduate students, and also faculty members and our alumni. Some participants also came from other universities outside Semarang.
